Emergency Food – Sardine Pasta

DSC05633

We all have this – the dish that we cook when we’re too tired, too lazy or have lost the will to live. Mine is a sardine pasta that can easily be prepared in 10 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tins of Portuguese style sardines (spicy if you like)
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • half a small onion, diced
  • spaghetti (I just grab what can fit in my hand, served 2-3)
  • salt and extra virgin olive oil, season to taste

How to:

  1. Boil spaghetti for 7 minutes or until al dente
  2. Meanwhile, drain the sardines. Crush the sardines in a pan and “fry” to for 2 minutes.
  3. Wait for the pasta to cook
  4. Once the pasta is cooked, transfer directly to the pan. Mix with the sardines. If it is too dry add a cup of the pasta water.
  5. Season with salt to taste. Mix.
  6. Serve immediately and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil.

  1. WOAAAH~!
Your photo make me hungry…It’s very good photo and based on the photo it must be delicious 🙂
btw could you give me tips how to capture picture of food like you do?
    Thank’s for the sharing…

    • How lovely, thank you for your kind words! My 3 top tips – (1) LIGHT I find morning light the best light to shoot food in. It’s not too white or too yellow and it sets the food up beautifully (2) COLOUR greens and reds look fabulous in food. Try to find our build in this element (3) INSPIRATION look at magazines, blogs and cook books that will inspire you. I personally like Donna Hay magazine. Hope that helps!

      • Thank You for the Photography tips @domestikada ! Tomorrow morning I’ll try it your tips and search for Donna Hay Magazine for inspiration too (If I don’t overslept, hehehe) Can I use your tips as my blog post? 🙂

      • Best of luck for tomorrow then and hope you wake up in time! No worries using the tips, may I just request that you cite your source (me) please? I would love for your readers/followers to read my blog too 🙂

  2. Oh I stumbled upon this post whilst searching the zerotohero tag as I’m trying the challenge and I’ve got to say I’ll be popping two tins of sardines into my electronic asda basket tomorrow. I’m always looking for a bargain or anything cheap and this recipe may just become a weekly staple in my house (I have a little one and am ALWAYS tired lol). May make a few tweaks but hey thanks for the recipe.
